What you'll learn in this course

Humans are social animals who just cannot imagine a life unless they have some sort of inspiration coming from different living, non-living, tangible and intangible resources. Our social nature makes us more adapted than the animals or any other forms of lives to establish solid relationships with creatures of our species around. Accordingly, we just cannot stay aloof from outside influences, which, in a way or the other, shape up our entire personality and make us considerate or ruthless toward the feelings, ambitions, and values of others. Since all of us are different, it applies to our endeavors when we set our goals to reach a particular destination.

Goals are subjective in nature; hence, when it comes to prioritizing our preferences and setting our goals, each one of us has his or her unique way of doing it. We cannot and should not limit our desire to achieve to just one or a couple of goals. While some of us are very specific and particular about what we want to achieve, others find themselves caught in a certain predicament that discourages all their efforts to decide their goal or goals. They are never sure about what they want from their lives and hence, their endeavors lack precision and the will to succeed.

This chapter intends to help people differentiate between goals and systems. Most of us tend to read both these terms in the same vein, which needs correction for sure. When we talk about goal, we mean a desired result emanating out of our endeavors. System, on the other hand, is a set of things, mannerisms, or qualities that you learn or develop over time. When you say you want to lose 12 pounds in three months, you are setting a goal, which could be a failure or success. Contrarily, when you want to learn how to eat right, you are actually focusing on developing some sort of mannerism, which has more chances of being a thumping success.

Creating achievable and perfectly practical goals are essential to ensure you could commit to them willingly and completely. You will not commit fully to a cause or a goal if you have even the slightest doubt about its credibility, achievability or usefulness. Your determination toward achieving specific goals is but a projection of your willingness to unlock your potential and think of different ways to realize what you have in your mind. One needs to be aware of his or her capabilities and accordingly, set goals respectively. Unlocking your potential to the maximum is as important as your will to succeed.

In this chapter, you would further learn about myriad ways to set smart goals. Smart goals can make a huge difference, as they tend to make you believe in your potential and relate your potential with the achievability aspect of that particular goal or goals. When you decide your goals is a smart way, your efforts are bound to produce desired results. On the other hand, impractical or carelessly set goals are sure to land you in a fix, which, at times, could be too unmanageable for you.
